Here’s a philosophical question for you: If November arrives without a breathless media announcement about Aldi’s advent calendars, is it really the holiday season at all? Not to worry — you don’t have to ponder that one at all this year. The 2024 advent calendars have arrived at America’s favorite discount grocery store, and they offer a little bit of everything (literally). There’s even a hot sauce calendar this year with 24 different styles and levels of heat.
Starting November 6, Aldi will be releasing its hotly anticipated lineup of advent calendars, and it’s best to scoop them up fast because they tend to sell out quickly. For the unfamiliar, advent calendars are an annual tradition counting down the 24 days of December before Christmas Day, full of two dozen compartments typically housing one tiny treat for each day of the Advent season.
At Aldi, you certainly have your pick of tiny treats: There will be as many as 20 different calendars offered this year, filled with either chocolate, wine, or other treasures. The press release notes that the chocolate, wine, and cheese calendars this year are designed to complement one another, and thus, “customers are encouraged to purchase all three calendars together for the ultimate pairing experience.” (Well played, Aldi.)
And if you’d like to buy something a little more, shall we say, festive, there are plenty of alcoholic options available, too. Choose from “countdown”-themed variety packs of wine, sparkling wine, cider, or even Irish cream, a category so specific that it’s hard to imagine 12 different riffs on it. (Evidently Strawberry, Sugar Cookie, and Raspberry Cheesecake Irish cream are all on offer.)
The calendars really are a well-priced excuse to sample from Aldi’s vast collection, perhaps using them to determine which items warrant inclusion on future shopping lists. So if the advent calendars intrigue you, it’s best to act fast. November 6 is still a couple of weeks away, so you have time to make a shopping game plan — read on for more details.
This year’s Emporium Selection Cheese Advent Calendar is well-priced and includes red Leicester, bruschetta cheese, pesto cheese, Mimolette, aged Gouda, extra mature cheddar, mustard Gouda, hard goat cheese, cheddar with whiskey, black truffle cheddar, and black pepper Gouda. Not only that, but the packaging lists “specially curated pairings” and a QR code customers can scan to learn more about each cheese.

The Moser Roth Luxury Advent Calendar includes many different flavors of chocolate customers are unlikely to have tasted before: coffee mousse, almond sprinkle, apple cinnamon, raspberry pallet dark, and medallion hazelnut, among many others. With Aldi’s value-oriented prices, you could even pick up a pair of calendars to gift to loved ones. This chocolate one would definitely complement the chain’s coffee calendar.

The most expensive calendar is also one of the most intriguing: the Wine Advent Calendar ($59.99), which contains virtually every variety of wine that the average consumer can name. There’s Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Grüner Veltliner, Zinfandel, red blends, white blends, Syrah, Merlot… have we run out of the ones that sound familiar yet? If the full Wine Village Tasting Experience is too much, there are also scaled-down gift packs such as the 5 Days of Red Wine collection and, for those who really know what they like, 5 Days of Cabernet Sauvignon.
