Where to donate leftover Halloween candy in Columbus

Nov 03, 2024

Hoarding Halloween candy might not be a great idea. Chocolates, gummies, and hard candy have different shelf lives, and there isn’t enough time to eat all of it (if you have time, kudos to you).

Don’t know what to do with all of that extra Halloween candy? The good news is, there are options to give that candy to someone in need.

According to Columbus on the Cheap, there are some places in Columbus where you can donate your Halloween candy.

Feed the Kids Columbus provides supplemental groceries to children with food insecurities, and they happily accept donations of Halloween candy for food bags and lunches.

They are now collecting Halloween candy donations between Nov. 1 and Nov. 7. More details of their work and drop-off locations can be found on their Facebook page.

The Pediatric Dentistry of Central Ohio Buyback will buy up to 5 pounds of your candy for $1 per pound and donate it to the Ronald McDonald House. Where: 605 Diley Road, PickeringtonWhen: November 4-7 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.November 8 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m.

Having trouble convincing your kids to give away their candy? Here’s how to encourage them to share their candy with the Switch Witch.

The Switch Witch behaves similarly to the Tooth Fairy. If you call on the Switch Witch, you will have your child keep their favorite candy while giving the rest to the Switch Witch.

While your child is asleep, the Switch Witch (aka, you, the parent) will take the candy in exchange for a toy or some money.

Or, you can be clear and tell them they’re going to cheer someone up.

It might be hard to explain donations in their language, but it might convince them to share if they know they will make another kid’s day a lot better.

It might mean a lot to help if your child knows another kid out there didn’t get to go trick-or-treating. Talk to them more about the organizations that will benefit from their candy.
