It's a sad day for biscuit lovers, as news broke out this morning that Arnott's has discontinued its iconic Classic Assorted variety packs.

The 500g pack, which included six different flavours: Shortbread Creams, Kingstons, Monte Carlos, Scotch Fingers, Butternut Snap and Choc Chip was a tearoom staple that often sparked fierce debates online and offline over which pick reigned supreme.

The bulk packet of biccies has been a popular choice over the years for many Aussies, thanks to the perfect ratio of plain and cream-filled options.

2GB's Ben Fordham shared the discovery on Ben Fordham Live after being informed by a listener and avid biscuit enthusiast, Peter Neve.

"It is my duty to inform you of news that is going to rock the biscuit world. A staple in every office tea room in Australia is about to disappear." Fordham announced.

Neve shared that he noticed his favourite white pack was missing from his local supermarket shelf "off and on" and at first concluded that it might be a distribution issue due to a fire they had in the distribution centre in Sydney.

However, on further investigation, Neve revealed that he wrote to Arnott's Australia and received a reply stating: "Due to ongoing low sales and limited shelf space in supermarkets, we have made the difficult decision to stop production of this product."

With an RRP of $4.50, it seems that the crowd-pleaser has now been replaced with a new, slightly smaller pink packet "High Tea Favourites."

Weighing 400 grams, it includes just four varieties – Scotch Finger, Raspberry Shortcake, Monte Carlo and Shortbread Cream.

Interestingly enough, Neve shared that he hopes they bring the classic tearoom staple back as the replacement product is $6 (so $1.50 more and 100 grams less), and there are only four different types of biscuits instead of six.
